Lay Augustinians

South Philadelphia Chapter of the Lay Augustinians

Launched in 2026, the Philadelphia Chapter of the Lay Augustinians is a vibrant community of men and women who seek to live out the spirituality of St. Augustine in their daily lives. Rooted in a spirit of friendship, prayer, and service, members gather regularly to deepen their relationship with God through shared reflection, study, and mutual support. Inspired by the Augustinian values of unity, truth, and love, the chapter fosters meaningful connections while encouraging each person to integrate faith into family life, professional work, and service to others. All are welcome into a community that walks together in faith, always seeking God with open hearts.

Augustinian Spirituality

Our spirituality proceeds from the teachings of the Gospels, the example of St. Augustine, and the tradition of the Order. Augustinian Spirituality has the following attributes:

  • It is Evangelical: Love of God and neighbor, fueled by the study of Sacred Scripture.
  • It is Prayerful: Coming to know God and rest in His love through contemplative prayer.
  • It is Charitable: A joyful devotion of time, talent, and treasure to the service of the Church.
  • Its axis is Community: Drawing strength from and giving strength to our brothers and sisters.
